We're Helping Youth! Inc. (WHY!) is a community-based educational opportunity program founded in 1994 "to promote equal opportunity in higher education" for occupational/vocational opportunities of the future. The program which has been in operation since August 1994, proposes three years of funding to serve 200 eligible participants per year from the Indianapolis / Marion County area. The majority of the participants will be from low-to moderate income families and "first-generation college" residents of Center Township as the target population. Using Management by Objectives and a system of formative and summative evaluations, the project proposes to meet Educational Opportunity Program goals by implementing detailed plans designed to reach project objectives as summarized below.GOALS
- To identify qualified individuals with potential for success at the post secondary level.
- To provide tours of various colleges and universities.
- To encourage qualified individuals to complete secondary school and enroll in post secondary educational programs.
- To conduct workshops which focus on job training and parent project training
- To publicize the availability of student financial assistance for persons who pursue programs of post secondary education.
- To provide an information network of other programs as a referral and support base for our participants.
